After talking to Brendan about Omegle.com..
I got a chance to tell him about the changes they could make to the site that would make it 100x better. So, I decided to go to the site again and take a look at the technology it uses. I figured I would spend some of my extra time toying around with creating a much more interesting and useful Omegle.com. But, unfortunately in order for me to view the chat’s implementation, I actually had to be “chatting” with someone.
I got thrown into a few chat rooms.. the first, some guy was talking about balls. After I purposely talked over his/her head for a few minutes they called me confucious.. and then left the chat room.
One of the other unfortunate attempts was when I got reconnected and someone immediately wrote “I am 8.” I responded with, “well, you should be in bed, and tell your parents that they have horrible parenting skills.” Then they wrote, “oh no, they would kill me.. like my sister”.. I was like, what the fuck?! I ended up disconnecting as they wrote that.. and obviously they were going to follow that with a story about how their sister is a crack head, or something.. or it is some bored 16 year old on a Friday night pretending to be an 8 because it “is funny”?
After all of this trouble to just better understand Omegle’s implementation.. I realized a somewhat anonymous chat site might not work well because of how many dumbasses there are out there. Everyone is on the thing to procrastinate and/or to act like an idiot.
Brendan, when you read this, try to brainstorm.. let me know if you could still see a service like that working in the real-world?
